The advice on how much protein you need per day varies widely. One source says 50 grams, another says a gram per pound of bodyweight, and recommendations keep shifting. The honest answer is that no single number fits everyone. How much protein you need depends on your body weight, your age, how active you are, and what you are trying to accomplish, whether that is staying healthy, building muscle, or holding on to strength as you get older.

What Is Protein and Why Does It Matter?

Spreading that protein across the day matters more than loading it all at dinner. In practice, aiming for 25 to 35 grams at breakfast, lunch, and dinner covers the majority of active adults.
